My personal opinion is that Nomura strategically placed Cloud and Aerith in the middle of the montage in order to avoid any confusion about why they’re in the romantic section of the credits as opposed to the “nakama” section. But instead, Nomura gave Cloud and Aerith the middle spot of the entire montage. It would have made much more sense to show Cloud and Aerith first, since Final Fantasy characters come secondary to Disney characters, and then all the Disney couples would follow, then finishing with RokuNami and Sokai-because those are the most important couples in the Kingdom Hearts universe. To me, as much as I love clerith, I can’t help but feel like the placement of Cloud and Aerith’s moment is strange. I can’t help but think that odd… Why are Cloud and Aerith the “middle” couple of the montage? Is there any significance to it? If we exclude those pairings, Square Enix still deliberately set up all 16 couples back-to-back, with Cloud and Aerith (the 8th couple shown) smack-dab in the middle of the montage. The only two pairs missing are Jack & Sally (The Nightmare Before Christmas) and Tarzan & Jane (Tarzan), both which could not be included due to copyright laws. Those are the couples included in the romantic portion of the credits. Esmeralda & Phoebus ( The Hunchback of Notre Dame).Ariel & Prince Eric (The Little Mermaid).Cinderella & Prince Charming (Cinderella).Aurora & Prince Phillip (Sleeping Beauty).Snow White & Prince Charming (Snow White). In order of appearance (starting from top left): Instead, I want to focus on the KH2.8 credits. There were even some cameos from different Square Enix franchises, with the cast of The World Ends with You appearing in Kingdom Hearts 2.8. Over time, the characters created specifically for Kingdom Hearts pushed the Final Fantasy cast out of focus, with Kingdom Hearts 3 lacking any Final Fantasy characters until the DLC was released. The debate about “Cloud’s light” has been done a thousand times and I don’t really intend on rehashing old quotes that have been explored a thousand times already or giving my opinion about them. Seeing characters like Donald Duck and Goofy fighting Sephiroth was something that no one had ever expected to see, yet it happened in the original Kingdom Hearts. The Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series have been closely linked since the beginning, with many declaring the first game to be a crossover between the Disney and Final Fantasy franchises. 2022 marks Kingdom Hearts' 20th anniversary and Square Enix is already celebrating the occasion with new merchandise. The official Final Fantasy VII Remakesocial media accounts are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Kingdom Heartsseries with new artwork that shows Cloud recreating the cover art from the first game.
